Holocaust Memorial

The Holocaust Memorial commemorates the darkest chapter of German history. Germany's central memorial of the Holocaust documents the persecution and massacre of the European Jews during the Third Reich. The gray color of the 2711 pillars is in remembrance of the ashes of those who were burnt alive. The barely noticeable inclination of the pillars and the impression of a fluctuating floor caused by the difference in height are intended to create a sense of insecurity. „It is impossible to represent the extend and scale of the Holocaust.“ (Architect Peter Eisenmann)
