Salvador Dalí – one of the most talented artists of the modern era, who staged his works and himself in the most spectacular ways. “Surrealism for all” – this is the spirit in which over 450 of the original exhibits of this enigmatic personality are permanently on view in our museum at Potsdamer Platz. This institutional cultural highlight provides visitors with the most comprehensive insight into Dalí’s virtuoso and experimental mastery of almost all art techniques, right in the center of Berlin.

Movies - Selected Examples

Dalí explored the medium of the film throughout his entire career.
In our in-house cinema the first surrealistic movie of film history An Andalusian Dog (1929, France) can be seen. Also, Hollywood productions like Alfred Hitchcock’s Spellbound (1945, USA), the animated film Destino (1946, USA) with Walt Disney and selected advertising films are on display.

Exquisite Sculptures

A selection of exquisite sculptures are on display in the exhibition. Among them are the following sculptures: Rhinoceros with Golden Sea Urchin (1985), Mannequin Zootropique (1971), Minotaur (1988) and many angel-like figures such as Lilith (1973), Surrealist Angel (1984) and Cubist Angel (1986). The probably most famous sculpture of Dalí Venus de Milo with Drawers is also exhibited.

Books - Selected Examples

Salvador Dalí not only illustrated the works of famous writers but also rivalled such colleagues in terms of his more than 200 major written works: poems, art- and cultural criticism, film scripts, novels, etc.
Also, the genius eccentric published his first autobiography at the tender age of 37.
The exhibition’s display cases show some of the most important published works as an excerpt from this comprehensive literary opus.
